I still think Scooba has great growth potential, and I think the Scooba/Roomba combo packs can be a powerful seller (I just wish iRobot was selling them for $400 like HSN, not $900!)
But folks, you've got to keep them in stock. All Scooba models are now out of stock at iRobot's own web site, and the Scooba 350 model has been out of stock for nearly two months. Can there be any excuse for this poor inventory management? Was there an unexpected surge in demand? A manufacturing problem? Who knows.
My own sense is that Scooba is experiencing some decent growth via retailers like HSN, where it seems to have strong word of mouth and has been well-reviewed. But while Roomba models received a $10-$30 price increase last month, which is either a sign of weakness or an attempt to grow the market.
UPDATED: Wired has picked up on the story, and iRobot says they have simply seen unexpectedly high sales. This is a VERY GOOD SIGN.
